On May 26, 1994, a year after the first allegation of sexual abuse of a minor and Michael Jackson’s out-of-court settlement with the Chandler family, the “King of Pop” married Elvis Presley’s only daughter, Lisa Marie, in a surprise wedding that surprised everybody.

A few months later, the loved-up (with lots of question marks) couple made their first TV appearance together at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The audience adores them and applauds them non-stop. Michael Jackson relaxed and smiling condescendingly and next to him, Lisa Marie – like a little girl – collected and as if scared.

“And guess what, nobody thought this would last,” Jackson said from the stage, holding his new wife’s hand tightly. Moments later, he hugs her and kisses her on the mouth in front of millions of viewers.

Presley was already the mother of two young children with musician Danny Keough, with whom she split just 20 days before her marriage to Michael Jackson. In every public appearance and interview, the couple trumpeted how in love and happy they were, while Lisa Marie supported her husband on allegations of pedophilia and sexual abuse. They eventually split in early 1996, with Presley citing “irreconcilable differences”.

Lisa Marie Presley, musician, singer and only child of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley, died on Thursday, 1/21/2023, in hospital, following a cardiac arrest, at the age of 54.

Michael Jackson – one of the greatest figures in the history of music and entertainment – died on June 25, 2009, aged 50, at his home in Los Angeles, California.
