The Colombian composer Keytin, 26, Shakira’s musical partner, 45, in the song that she attacks her ex-husband Gerard Piqué, 35, revealed to the website Soy 502 that some parts of the lyrics were cut for being too aggressive. “Music Sessions”, released on Wednesday (11), has already hit 100 million views and went viral.
According to the composer, the aggressive parts that were deleted from the song make reference to an alleged problem that Piqué suffered in bed due to stress, an alleged sexual illness of her ex-husband, the result of infidelity, and very direct insults.
Keytin talked about the process of creating the song and revealed that, despite having presented many ideas, the singer composed the final version. “Literally, I just helped her rhyme, but the songwriter was Shakira,” said Keytin, who spent three days with her in Barcelona. “Then we spent two weeks talking [à distância para terminar a música].”
He defended the singer saying that everyone suffers and overcomes the pain as they want and Shakira always sings what she feels when she is in love or hurt. “She’s an artist, don’t make her make lemonade, if she wants to break free that way, let her do it. I completely agree with her, she’s making music, she’s not doing anything she doesn’t know how to do”, said Keytin.
In the song, the singer did not spare criticism for her ex-husband and supposed new girlfriend, Clara Chía. With a lot of irony and references, the Colombian says in a certain passage that she is worth “two of 22”, in a reference to Clara’s age. And she sings, “A wolf like me is not for guys like you. I was big and that’s why you’re with someone like you.”
In another part of the song, she again hints that the song is about the new couple by stating that “she is named after a good person, clearly she is just like you”. “I was big and that’s why you’re with someone like you. You thought you hurt me and made me stronger. Women don’t cry anymore, women make money,” she intones.
