In the early hours of December 24, the vocalist Martha Arapi, one of the most popular and beloved protagonists of the National Opera, passed away.
He collaborated with the National Opera for over 20 years, from 1988 to 2009, in more than 20 lyric works, in about 40 productions. Performed, among others, the works: The Bat, Norma, Don Pasquale, Rigoletto, Traviata, The Magic Flute, Falstaff, Don Giovanni, The Barber of Seville, Simon Boccanegra, Bohem, Carmen, O’Hara Param troubadour, Madama Butterfly, Clowns. He also participated in the first presentations of works by Pericles Cuckoo, as well as in the operas Thais and Marathon-Salamis.
He was born in Piraeus. He studied classical song at the Piraeus Association Conservatory with George Zervanos. He participated in concerts and performed many recitals in Greece and abroad, performing operas, oratorios and song cycles of Greek and a wide range of foreign (Italian, German, French repertoire, baroque works, classical, romantic and contemporary). He has collaborated with almost all Greek ensembles, as well as with important foreign orchestras (Dresden Philharmonic, Budapest Symphony, Sofia Opera Orchestra, Prague Symphony). He collaborated repeatedly with the Athens Concert Hall and appeared at the Herodeion as part of the Athens Festival, while recording a recital for the DG Program of the Greek Radio.
With special personal interest for Greek composers, he interpreted and recorded numerous works by Carrer, Mantzarou, Kalomiri, Lavraga, Maragopoulos, Mikroutsikou, Theodoraki.
