Channing Tatum admitted that he will tell his daughter the truth about his past, that he was a stripper in his youth, but will do so when she is old enough. The 42-year-old actor is dad to nine-year-old Everly, who he shares with his ex-wife, Jenna Dewan. However, before making it big in Hollywood, Channing spent much of his teenage years as a working stripper in Florida.

The actor, who has been open about his days as a stripper, then starred in ‘Magic Mike’, inspired by the true story of stripper Mike Zeman. Speaking to “Entertainment Tonight,” he admitted that he will make it clear to his daughter that he didn’t just embody this role on screen. “When she’s old enough to understand we’ll have that conversation. I’ll explain to her that dad didn’t just do it in the movies, but that I was a stripper. I won’t lie to her,” he said.

Channing was voted most “athletic” when he graduated from Tampa Catholic High School in 1998, but turned down a football scholarship and instead chose to strip at a now-defunct Florida nightclub. Under the stage name “Chan Crawford,” the then 18-year-old said he was making $50 a night plus tips.

The actor, who married his “Step Up” co-star Jenna Dewan in July 2009, eventually caught the eye of an agent who put him in the entertainment industry. She worked as a model and soon after the roles came in Hollywood.

The 42-year-old actor met his wife on the set of ‘Step Up’ in 2006 and they married in July 2009, and four years later they had a daughter. However, in 2018, the couple announced they were separating, with their divorce finalized in November 2019.

“We fought it out for a long time, even though we both kind of knew we were drifting apart,” he told Vanity Fair. “I think we told ourselves a story when we were young, and we continued to tell ourselves that story, no matter how overtly life told us we were so different. When we became parents we realized that we couldn’t continue together,” added the actor.

Describing his breakup, Channing Tatum said it was extremely scary at first. “That whole plan you had literally turns to sand and slips through your fingers and you just sit there and look at it, unable to react.” However, he remained positive and admitted that it was the right decision.
