“Naoussa-Apokria 2023”: The events focus on the event “Jenissaries and Boules”

The Municipality of the Heroic City of Naoussa organizes the “Naoussa-Apokria 2023” events from February 16 to 27. Carnival events in Naoussa, centering on the action of “Jenissaries and Boules”, differentiate themselves from other cities that organize carnival events, emphasizing the uniqueness of this custom that takes place only during the carnival in Naoussa, thus promoting the tradition , the civilization and the culture of the people who support it, preserve it and perpetuate it through the faithful observance of the customary.

At the same time, the custom of Clean Monday “KOULOUMA” is a leading cultural, touristic and social event. Also, the local professionals as well as the cultural associations and organizations that participate in the events, contribute to the promotion of tourism, but also to the protection of folk tradition, highlighting the social dimension of the lives of the inhabitants, their morals and customs.

In the context of the events, the Municipality of the Heroic City of Naoussa organizes a number of events emphasizing the musical tradition, the particularly rhythmic and exciting Balkan music, hosting the internationally renowned and historical brass band from Serbia “The Fejat and NebojšaSejdić Orchestra” on Thursday, February 16. The musical events continue on Friday, February 17th with the multi-member group “Agia Fanfara”, on Sunday, February 26th with the Florina Band of the Balkanis brothers and conclude on Thursday, March 2nd with the highly successful musical theater performance “Koini Isychia” by Vassilis Papakonstantinou and Odysseus Ioannou at the Municipal Theater of Naoussa.

This year, with a “face” in the tradition, we party again as in the past with roller skates, dancing, masquerades and sour black wine of Naoussa giving a special atmosphere to the Halloween events.

• Karatasou Square, 19:30: “OUR IDENTITY, THE TRADITION”. Start of the “Naoussa-Apokria 2023” events, awarding of an honorary distinction to the best project of the “Become a godfather of the 2023 Halloween” competition with the “Dimitris Scooper” award.
This is followed by a concert-celebration of authentic Balkan music (balkanmusic) with the internationally renowned brass band “The Fejat and NebojšaSejdić Orchestra”.
The history of the band begins in 1959 with its founder FejatSejdić, the so-called Miles Davis of the Balkans. In their multi-year career, they have collaborated with world-class artists (GypsyKings), have recorded music for the cinema, among them the music of EmirKusturica’s film “Gypsy Time” with GoranBregović. NebojšaSejdić, Fejat’s grandson, continues the orchestra’s successful career, winning prizes at the famous Guča wind festival in Serbia, while the ensemble performed at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

• 11:00, City Hall: The pilgrimage. The packs successively receive permission from the Mayor and follow their designated route through the city
• 17:00, Alonia Square: Taking off the “face”, dance with the participation of the whole world. We follow the packs to the most emotional part of the custom from Alonia to the crooked plane tree where the children and the pack attendants sing the traditional patinades
• Solomos Pedestrian Street, 1:00 p.m.: “We celebrate Naoussa”, a large table with local treats, wine and tsipouro of Naoussa from the Association “Friends of the Carnival” and the participation of folklore clubs of the city with a dance program
• Building of the Vlachon Association (23 Sofroniou Street), at 17:00: 19 “Prementi” for the friends of the Vlachon Association of Naoussa at the association’s house with coffee, treats and dancing
