With a selection of 300 photographs from the 35,000 negatives held at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Britain’s Andy Saunders in the album ‘Apollo Remastered’ looks back at 11 Apollo missions from 1961 to 1972, and offers a comprehensive look at the evolution of his photography space in the last 60 years.
The 430-page book, published by Black Dog & Leventhal, with photographs, the majority of which are presented for the first time digitized and restored, as most were known from copies, begins with the moment this dream became a reality. A dream whose seed was planted by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in his legendary speech “We Resolve to Go to the Moon” on September 12, 1962.
“I’ve been obsessed with things since I was a kid,” says Andy Saunders. “I loved anything that could fly, but especially rockets, with the Moon as the final destination. I always wanted to know more about those who made that trip, about the rockets, the spaceship, and I wanted to see more and imagine what it would be like if I made that trip myself.”
