Emílio Dantas, 40, even changes his tone of voice when he talks about the one-year-old twins Roque and Raul, the result of his nearly eight-year relationship with actress Fabiula Nascimento. “They brought me lightness. I feel much calmer, the level of anxiety has decreased. My children made me come out of an almost depression in which I lost 12 kilos due to the pandemic and also this government”, he says.
It was “this government”, by the way, that made Emílio and his father, also Emílio, cut ties. “I’ve spent the last four years [tempo em que o país esteve a gestão de Jair Bolsonaro] without talking straight to my father. Politics alienated us. I suffered for four years because I was always very grateful for him and we lost affinities, an important link built by affective memories, of which I have many by his side”.
Once again, Roque and Raul positively interfere in Emílio’s life story. “Because of the boys, we went back to talking about various subjects and topics. Less politics. He avoids and doesn’t want to talk, but living is a political act. I have tried to respect and wait for his time”, he says.
Emílio, who in recent years has been participating in series such as “Todas as Mulheres do Mundo”, “Amor Sorte” and “Sob Pressão”, laughs at the comparisons between Theo, the businessman he plays in “Vai na Fé”, and Rubinho, from “The Force of Willing”. Two characters that he himself calls “scoundrels”. “They are, right? Rubinho was a not so charismatic guy, more introspective and ambitious. I think Theo is more dangerous [risos]”, opines.
He also spoke about the protagonism of blacks in telenovelas. “I think it took a while, but it’s an achievement, a victory,” he explains. The actor admits that he regretted starring in “Segundo Sol” in 2018, precisely because of the almost exclusively white cast in a plot that takes place in Bahia.
“It was very wrong that I made Beto Falcão. Not because of the author [João Emanuel Carneiro]or by the company [Globo]. It just doesn’t match reality. Bahia is 95% black, and the person who should have been telling this story was a black man. I woke up to this very late.”
