Well-known artist and toy designer for franchises such as “He-Man” and “Ninja Turtles,” T. Mark Taylor died at his home in Southern California at age 80. According to the AP agency and repercussion sites like NBC, the cause was congestive heart failure.
Terrell Mark Taylor was born on June 5, 1941 according to California electoral records. He leaves his wife and designer Rebecca Salari-Taylor, who he’s been with for 50 years.
“I felt him saying goodbye to this world as I held him in my arms for one last love kiss,” Salari-Taylor wrote in a Facebook post.
Taylor also worked for the US Department of Defense in Pasadena and contributed submarine designs, biological and technical sonar technology, and seafloor master maps.
The character He-Man, from “Masters of the Universe”, was a toy from the manufacturer Mattel that after being successful became an animated series. In the saga, he fought against sorcerers and villains. He claimed to have been inspired by ancient fossils and the Vikings for creation.
Mattel has sold more than 70 million dolls from its collection 30 months after hitting stores nearly 40 years ago, according to The New York Times.
The “Ninja Turtles” franchise, whose main characters Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo loved a pizza, became an animated series and movies. Taylor was the one who designed the toys.
