Princess Diana’s hitherto unknown letters to her friends have come to light and convey the difficult times and emotions she experienced during her divorce with Charles.

In one of them, dated May 20, 1996, Diana wrote: “If I had known a year ago what I would experience going through this divorce, I would never have consented. It’s hopeless and ugly.”

The 32 handwritten letters from the princess are written from late 1995 and 1996 to her friends Susie & Tarek Kassem.

The couple told the Daily Mail they decided to sell them because “owning the documents is a big responsibility” and the proceeds will go to charities Diana supported.

“..I am going through very difficult times and the pressure I feel comes from all sides. It is very difficult sometimes to keep one’s head up…. I wish this divorce to go through as the potential costs are enormous,” Diana wrote in an April 1996 letter.

The letters will be sold individually through Lay’s Auctioneers on February 16. They are estimated to be worth £90,000.
