Diagnosed with cancer, Preta Gil cancels Carnival blocks

In the chemotherapy stage to treat bowel cancer, singer Preta Gil, 48, announces that she will not participate in Carnival in 2023. In a note, she warns that she now wants to focus entirely on curing the disease.

“Everyone who lives with me and knows me knows how important Carnival is to me and my fans, a magical moment in which we celebrate life and love. This year I will not be able to perform the blocks, I will continue my oncological treatment with a focus on healing But I’m sure that next year we’ll be together again”, says Preta.

Last month, the singer used social media to tell fans that she had bowel cancer. She was hospitalized for six days at Clínica São Vicente, in Rio, due to a discomfort she felt and, after tests, she discovered the disease.

“Thank God, today I received a definitive diagnosis. I have an adenocarcinoma in the final portion of the intestine. I start my treatment next Monday [16] and I count on everyone’s energy to remain calm and confident.”

Initially, the singer’s family had said that she had been hospitalized on January 5 due to a persistent migraine attack, which made doctors recommend a series of tests.

“The resonance of the head did not give anything, everything is fine. Her intestine is stuck, maybe she has to do a wash and then go back home”, said Flora Gil, wife of Gilberto Gil, father of the singer.

Last Monday (30), Preta started a new phase of chemotherapy. Again on social networks, she made a video to comment on the moment she lives.

“Things have improved. I’ve been feeling better throughout the week, regaining my vital energy. It’s one day after another, a maxim for anyone undergoing any treatment”, he said. “I’m not going to create many expectations, knowing that I have the support of doctors, science and people’s love”, added the singer.
