Fifteen years have passed this year since the untimely death of the great Cypriot composer Marios Tokas.

The Marios Tokas Foundation and the composer’s family have unearthed 15 rare recordings of him performing some of his greatest songs from his personal archive.

The recordings will be available through Mario Toka’s official social media channels. In most of them, these are the first recordings of the songs.

Recordings made by him on the cassette player that was always on top of his piano.

For us, it is the memories of our childhood. We hope that for you they will become an occasion to get to know Mario Toka’s songs again through his own interpretation. Kostas’ children, Angelos and Hara Tokas, mention his own testimony of his soul.

A full 36 years ago, and while the song was only a few hours or days old, in some neighborhood of Zografou, Marios Tokas sat down at his piano, pressed “REC” on his cassette player and began a performance-dedication of his soul.

The song started its journey in the Greek discography in 1987 with the title “Mesa da mae sou thalasses” and the voice of Konstantina.

A few years later, in 1992, the song was re-released and included in a 90’s station album entitled “Our National Loneliness”.

The unsurpassed Dimitris Mitropanos seals the song forever with his sensational interpretation.

In 2018, “Thalasses” was released again in a fresh performance with the voice of Glykeria and the participation of Antonis Remos, while in 2021 it was also recorded with the voice of Peggy Zina and included in the digital album “Peggy Zina performs Mario Toka”.
