The city of Elefsina is now on track to be the Cultural Capital for 2023
The extraordinary weather conditions may have prohibited today the route of one of the four processions of the Opening Ceremony of the Eleusis Cultural Capital 2023, that of the sea “Sacred” street, but it allowed the start of the land Procession of the Dates from Kerameikos.
The city of Elefsina is now on track to be the Cultural Capital for 2023.
The procession started at 2:00 in the afternoon. at the starting point they were welcomed in a festive atmosphere by volunteer school students and the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Athens. The day runners – distinguished triathletes, together with athletes with disabilities and amateur runners, arrived at 4:00 in the afternoon in Elefsina, after having traveled 21 km from Iera Odos, Athens Avenue and the old National Highway, at an intersection of Athens with Elefsina.
During the arrival of the processions, Nymphs appeared unexpectedly, under the kinesiology supervision of Constantinos Rigos and the costume design of Olga Karaververis.
The third procession came from Europe. The Antwerp artistic group TimeCircus, together with the land ship Landship, traveled 3,000 km on foot in 9 months, in the largest pilgrimage in the history of Eleusis. With them were also the three dogs of the team, who accompanied the artists throughout the journey and in all the weather conditions encountered at the various points of this European route.
In the end, residents and visitors formed another informal procession. People have flooded the beach, living every moment of this unique experience and keeping their excitement undiminished, as the city of ancient Mysteries for the “coming” of Persephone, is now at the center of European cultural interest.
