On the occasion of the inauguration of Elefsina – European Capital of Culture 2023, the French station “France Culture” dedicated a large part of its cultural show “Soft Power” to modern Greek culture and especially in Elefsina. From the Greek side, the event’s artistic director Michael Marmarinos, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports in charge of Contemporary Culture, Nikolas Giatromanolakis, and the president of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s Culture Center, Elly Andriopoulou, spoke on the show.
Michael Marmarinos referred to the role of the city in Ancient Greece, underlining that having been a famous center during Antiquity and an industrial city for a hundred years in the modern era, “Eleusis is ready to move to the next phase which is the exploitation of its potential with a vehicle culture”.
also the Deputy Minister of Culture Nikolas Giatromanolakis hosted the show at the National Museum of Contemporary Art. “Greece has a rich and important cultural heritage that is Greek, European and global and we are very proud of it and do everything possible to protect it, share it and develop it. This does not stop us from investing in contemporary art ” he said among other things.
