Mobilization of artists

It is noted that yesterday 18 private Drama Schools appealed to the Council of Ministers and request that Presidential Decree 85/2023, which equates the professional rights of graduates of Higher Private Drama Schools with those of High School diploma holders, be annulled as unconstitutional and contrary to European legislation. in the field of careers in the Government.

Finally, it is recalled that the professors of the Drama School of the National Theater have announced that they will submit their resignation if by today 8/2 – cut-off date for the loss of the academic year – there are no practical indications that Presidential Decree 85/2022 will be amended .

More specifically, in a statement by FOTHA it is stated:

“The government’s panic about our mobilization (Thursday 2/2/2023) proved to be well founded. Thousands of people gathered yesterday at the Syntagma in a mobilization of four and a half hours, demanding the withdrawal of the specialties of artists from PD 85/2022. We headed to the Maximos Palace, at the time when the Council of Ministers had been convened in order to present a resolution with our demands, but we were not admitted despite our persistence. Then the march ended at the Chiller building (National Theatre) in Agios Konstantinos, where it disbanded after a while.

The intransigence of the government and the communicative way it tries to manage our fair demands, leaves us no other alternative than to continue our struggle with undiminished intensity. We are now sure that society is also on our side. We continue our mobilizations. On Saturday 4/2/2023 at 6.00 pm, a protest performance at the opening of the “Eleusis, Cultural Capital of Europe” institution, on Tuesday 7/2/2023 in the afternoon we are organizing a motorcade that will start from Alsos Stratou (Badminton theater) and end up in the occupied school of the National Theater, as well as a NEW 24-HOUR STRIKE ON WEDNESDAY 8/2/2023.

We don’t stop until our demands are met:

IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWAL OF THE P.D. 85/2022 on the specialties of artists and workers in Art and Culture.
Restoring our professions to TE status for all (or PE for those branches that applied).
Establishment of Public Tertiary Higher Artistic Education and unified public artistic education at all levels under the supervision of the Ministry of Education”
