What is the Eric series about?
When his nine-year-old son goes missing on the way to school, Vincent – ​​one of New York’s top puppeteers and creator of the hugely popular children’s TV show, Good Day Sunshine – struggles to cope. Blaming himself for Edgar’s disappearance, he is racked with guilt, becoming increasingly unstable.
Worse, though, is his new obsession with Edgar’s drawings of a blue monster puppet, Eric. Vincent somehow convinces himself that if he can get Eric on the show, then Edgar will come home. But when the detective on the case connects Edgar’s case to that of Marlon Rochelle, a 14-year-old who went missing nearly a year ago, everyone seems to want Edgar’s case closed… and fast.
Vincent’s progressively destructive behavior alienates him from his family, his colleagues, and the detectives who try to help him. Eric is the delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the goal of bringing his son back home.
The cast
Cumberbatch is the highly intelligent, charismatic, yet narcissistic Vincent. Gaby Hoffmann stars as Vincent’s wife, Cassie – and Ivan Morris Howe stars as their 9-year-old son, Edgar.
McKinley Belcher III takes on the role of seasoned detective Michael Ledroit, who unexpectedly finds himself forced to choose between protecting his secret life and finding Edgar. Matteo Cripp (David Denman), Ledroit’s boss is adamant that Ledroit must stop with the case – and then there’s graffiti artist Yuusuf Egbe (Bamar Kane), who unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in the story of a missing boy.
Dan Fogler stars as Lennie Wilson, Vincent’s best friend, while Clarke Peters is George Lovett, the neighbor who let Edgar play in his apartment whenever his parents argued.
Phoebe Nichol, Adepero Odyue, Alexis Molnar and Roberta Colindrez round out the cast.
Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for this six-episode thriller, but it will likely be in late 2023, early 2024.
