“Nothing will keep me down!” says Bruce Willis. In fact, he declares that he has defeated “terrorists, divorce lawyers and… male pattern baldness!”.

It’s a 2018 video that has gone viral on social media following the news that he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. However, about a year ago the actor retired from acting due to his battle with aphasia.

The video shows the 67-year-old “Die Hard” star speaking on Comedy Central in 2018, joking that he has defeated all kinds of threats, from “terrorists to divorce lawyers to male pattern baldness.”

In the video, Bruce Willis takes to the stage after being poked fun at by his famous friends and co-stars, before addressing his roles and marital problems.

On Thursday, February 16, Bruce Willis’ family revealed that the actor has been diagnosed with dementia (FTD), a year after he retired from acting due to his battle with aphasia.

Frontotemporal Dementia affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. It is one of the most common forms of dementia. It is an irreversible condition caused by neurodegenerative changes in the brain. It is possibly the most difficult form of dementia to manage. One of its peculiarities is that it usually appears at a younger age, compared to other dementias. It can affect people between the ages of 40 and 65. The primary symptom of the disease is disturbances in the person’s behavior and personality.

In the video, the actor says, “Nothing can stop me. I’ve been attacked by terrorists, asteroids, movie critics, music critics, divorce lawyers, male pattern baldness and none of that has stopped me because I’m still Bruce Willis.”

Social media users are ‘bowing’, in their own way, to the actor for the uphill ‘battle’ he has to fight once again and urging him not to give up.

Willis’ wife Emma Heming, ex-wife Demi Moore and his five daughters shared his diagnosis in a joint statement posted on the Frontotemporal Degeneration Association website, which read: “Our family expresses her deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s initial diagnosis.

In that spirit, we wanted to update you on our beloved husband, father and friend as we now have a deeper insight into what he is going through. Since we announced that he was diagnosed with aphasia in the spring of 2022, Bruce’s condition has worsened and today we have a specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD).

Unfortunately, he has trouble communicating and this is just one symptom of Bruce’s illness. Although this is painful, it is also a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.

FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and it can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more common than we know.

Currently there are no cures for the disease, which hopefully can change in the coming years. As Bruce’s condition progresses, we hope that media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs much more awareness and research,” the statement concluded.
