The German remake of the classic anti-war film “None newer than the Western Front” and black comedy “The Spirits of Inisherin” they were the first winners of the BAFTA Awards, the British Academy of Film and Television.

The Netflix drama film, based on his novel of the same name Erich Maria Remarque about the horrors of World War I, as experienced by a young German soldier, is nominated for a total of 14 awards. It has already won the awards for best adapted screenplay and foreign language film, and will also be up for best film, against Ghosts of Inicerin, the biopic Elvis, the sci-fi comedy Everything and the drama Tár.

“The Spirits of Inisherin” won both awards in the Best Supporting Actor categories, with Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan. “Spirits” and the film “Everything” claim ten awards.

Colin Farrell for “Ghosts”, Brendan Fraser for “The Whale” and Austin Butler for “Elvis” are up for the best actor award. In the category of first female role favorites are Michelle Geo (Everything) and Cate Blanchett, who plays an orchestra conductor in the film “Tár”.

At the beginning of the evening, the actress Helen Mirren, who won a BAFTA and an Academy Award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in The Queen, paid tribute to the monarch who died in September.
