Spencer Matthews and his mother Jane Matthews reunited at the premiere of the new documentary “Finding Michael” in London. The film, commissioned by Disney+, details the emotional story of Spencer Matthews’ quest to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Michael, who disappeared on Mount Everest in 1999.

Michael Matthews became the youngest Briton to reach Everest at the age of 22 on May 13, 1999, but lost track of him on the way down.

The experienced mountaineer, who had previously conquered Aconcagua, the Pyrenees and the Swiss Alps, was the 162nd person to die on Everest.

The documentary ‘Finding Michael’, 23 years later, shows the journey of Spencer Matthews in an attempt to find and bring back to Britain the body of his brother.

The expedition team was led by Nepal-born British mountaineer Nirmal Purja, ‘Nims’ the world record holder for the fastest ascent of all 14 mountains above 8,000 metres. The two faced unexpected and extreme challenges during their mission.

The feature-length documentary was directed by Tom Beard and executive produced by TV host Bear Grylls.

Spencer Matthews is a British businessman who has appeared in the reality shows Made in Chelsea, Dancing with the Stars and Stepping Out and the survival game Bear Grylls: Mission Survive.
