by

More than 3,000 flights were canceled worldwide today, with more than 50% of them flying within the US, exacerbating travel problems due to weather conditions and rising numbers of infections from Omicron variant.

More than 3,300 flights were canceled at noon today (World Time) including more than 1,900 incoming or outgoing flights from the United States, according to a count on the FlightAware.com flight tracking website.

Including flights that were delayed but not canceled, more than 4,800 flights were delayed in total.

The Christmas and New Year holidays are usually the busiest for air travel, but the rapid spread of COVID-19 has led airlines to cancel flights as pilots and crews quarantined.

Nationwide Transport Services are also suspending or reducing the supply of their services, due to the reduction in their available staff, due to the increase in cases.

The Omicron variant has recorded a record number of infections, canceling many of the planned celebrations for 2022, worldwide.
