The Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP) condemned Alexandre Frota to pay R$ 50 thousand in compensation for moral damages to the former president of the Workers’ Party (PT) of Ubatuba, north coast of São Paulo, Gerson Florindo de Souza . The former federal deputy was accused of spreading fake news in 2018 involving the petista and the result came out last week.

“Zero surprise with the conviction. I can still appeal the sentence, but the decisions in court must be fulfilled and it will always be like that. F5.

In the open action against the actor, Florindo presented a video released by the former parliamentarian commenting on an attack suffered by Fernando Haddad, candidate for president of the Republic at the time, at the exit of an event at the National Confederation of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), in Brasilia DF). In the images, the former parliamentarian, who was a supporter of the candidate for the 2018 presidential elections, Jair Bolsonaro, claimed that the petista had dressed up as a Bolsonarist to create all the confusion.

Gerson Florindo filed a lawsuit and proved that he was not in Brasilia on the day of the attack. Alexandre Frota, then, claimed that he made a mistake and removed the video from the air. The process continued and the former parliamentarian was convicted in the first instance, but appealed. However, on February 28 of this year, the TJ-SP upheld the decision. As rapporteur of the case, judge Elcio Trujillo, stated that the publication affected the honor and image of the author of the process.

In December of last year, Justice declared the bankruptcy of Alexandre Frota, at his own request. The actor claimed to have debts greater than his assets and said he was unable to pay them off. He reported that he was a defendant in several lawsuits with indemnity actions. The request was accepted by Judge Carlos Aiba, of the 3rd Civil Court of Cotia, in Greater São Paulo, who determined that Banco Econômico S/A would be responsible for managing Frota’s assets, until all debts were paid off.
