Ben Affleck revealed he was unhappy and drinking heavily while filming the long-suffering Justice League in 2016.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said that his work on the 2017 superhero film left a “monstrous taste” in his mouth and led him to abandon his own plans to direct a Batman film.

“The movie made me say, ‘I’m out.’ I don’t want to do any of that again. I am not suitable. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a job. It broke my heart,” said Ben Affleck.

The film’s production was fraught with drama and reshoots with Joss Whedon from the beginning, after the film’s original director, Zack Snyder, left following the death of his daughter.

“I started drinking too much. I wanted to jump out of a hotel window in London. And I thought, this is not the life I want. My children are not here. I am unhappy”.

The “Gone Girl” actor added that the role of Batman was unsatisfying and that he spent a lot of time exhausted. After the film was released, DC fans demanded that Snyder’s version be released as well.

Affleck said he did one day of filming with Snyder before the now-famous “Snyder Cut” is released in 2021.

“I went and did it. And now it’s my highest-rated film on IMDb,” he said, adding, “I’ve never had a film that went from nadir to peak. In retrospect, it’s a success. Suddenly they congratulated me on the “bombshell” in which I participate.”

About alcoholism, the actor revealed that his ex-wife Garner, who divorced the actor in 2015 after 10 years of marriage, pleaded with him to seek treatment in 2018.

The newly married movie star, who tied the knot with Jennifer Lopez in July 2022, said his priority is now his family.

Ben Affleck also said he has turned down opportunities to direct films in other countries to be there for his children. “These years are very important. If I lose them, I will regret it for the rest of my life,” he added.
