Rafaella Tuma, a member of the BBB 23 team, spoke out on social networks and apologized after Internet users accused her of racism for the content of a post. The publication, later deleted, showed a conversation on WhatsApp in which a friend tells the other that she is suffering for a man, and sends a photo of a black boy, in a cap and glasses. “Why are you suffering? Did he steal from you?” asks the other.
She is the show’s illustrator and makes animation videos with dialogues between participants. On social media, users say that Rafaella practiced “recreational racism” —when prejudice is masked as humor and jokes, under the argument of joking— and that the post perpetuates stereotypes.
“There’s not much I can do, I have to admit the mistakes and see that they are grotesque. I got this meme from the guy himself. The guy in the photo is an actor and comedian, he took the photo himself. I’m not running away from my mistake , I know I shouldn’t have published it,” she began.
Rafaella also says that it will not be the only time that she will comment on what happened, since the post “brings a huge problem and a very negative message”. “I know I shouldn’t have shared it, I sincerely apologize, I made a mistake. I’m seeing all the comments that are going around and it won’t be the first time I’m going to comment on this”, she finished.
The report contacted Rafaella and the broadcaster, but did not receive a response until the publication of this article.
