Disney is preparing a remake of the animated film “The Aristocats” and assigned Questlove to direct. According to Variety, the remake of the 1970 classic will be a mix of live action and computer-generated imagery (CGI).

Questlove will also executive produce and score the film.

“Peter Rabbit” director Will Gluck and “Onward” screenwriter Keith Bunin are adapting the script, which concerns a family of elegant felines kidnapped by their owner’s butler. The butler thus attempts to take his employer’s property, which was intended for her cats.

“The Aristocats” follows other Disney animated classics such as “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin” and “Mulan” that have been adapted into live-action films. New adaptations of The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey and Snow White starring Rachel Zegler will also be released.

Best known as the co-founder and drummer of The Roots, Questlove made his directorial debut with the 2021 documentary Summer of Soul. He is also working on a documentary about Sly Stone.
