Brad Pitt let elderly neighbor live in his mansion for free until he dies

by

Having Brad Pitt as a neighbor is a fun fact in itself. But the actor and presenter showed that he can go further when it comes to generosity among those who live nearby. He let an elderly widower live in one of his properties in Los Angeles rent-free for years.

It was actress Cassandra Peterson, known in Hollywood for playing Elvira, who revealed the real estate dynamics in an interview with People magazine. She explains that Pitt bought her property in 1994 for US$ 1.7 million (about R$ 8.6 million today) and, almost 30 years after the acquisition, sold the mansion for US$ 40 million (about R$ 202 million) last month.

The actor, over the years, has expanded the size of his original property. “I think there were about 22 houses around the property. Every time one became available [para venda]he bought it,” says Peterson. One of those houses belonged to an elderly man in his 90s, with whom Pitt made an agreement that allowed him to stay in his house.

“His wife passed away and her husband, John, lived there. I know that Brad allowed him to live there without paying anything until he died”, reports the actress. She adds that the arrangement turned out to be longer than expected: “It was funny, because John lived to be 105 years old.”

The actress jokes that the old man “went on living forever” and adds: “I imagine Brad was thinking, ‘well, he can live there until he dies, which should happen any time’.” Peterson also became Brad Pitt’s neighbor, as she bought a house next door after selling her property to the actor in 1994. She describes him as “always kind and gentle”.

The mansion sold in March was where Pitt and Angelina Jolie lived their marriage and raised their six children: Maddox, 21, Pax, 19, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 16, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 14 years old.
