The African-American author and activist James Baldwin the award-winning actor, singer and writer will star in a biopic Billy Porter.
The film will be based on the 1994 book “James Baldwin: A Biography” with the actor penning the script alongside playwright Dan McCabe. At the same time, he will also have the role of producer along with Byron Allen’s Media Group Pictures.
“The talent and commitment of Billy Porter and Dan McCabe to enhance the legacy and contribution of James Baldwin with this special story is invaluable and unique,” Byron Allen said in a statement.
According to the Guardian, the project is a personal dream of Porter, who has previously expressed his admiration for the American author.
In 2019, he moved James Baldwin’s words on stage at the 71st Emmy Awards by winning the award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his role in ‘Pose’.
