Matthew McConaughey Says Woody Harrelson Could Be His Biological Brother

by

Matthew McConaughey is having serious doubts about his origins – or about an alleged long-lost biological relative who has actually been his friend for years. The actor told Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast that actor and friend Woody Harrelson may be his brother.

A few years ago, he found out that his mother knew Woody’s father, perhaps intimately, but he didn’t want to go through with it. “You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, it’s always been a blurred line. In Greece, a few years ago, we were sitting around talking about how close we are and our families too,” McConaughey began. “And my mom was there and said, ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’ Everyone was aware of the ellipsis my mother left after she ‘met’. It was a loaded acquaintance.”

The comment made the actors dig into the family’s past, and they found some receipts and documents from possible meetings between family members in Texas during a period of divorce from their respective spouses.

“We did some math and found that the father [de Harrelson] was on leave at the same time as my mom and dad were going through their second divorce. Then there are possible receipts and places in West Texas where there may have been a meeting, or the ‘meet’ moment.”

The two have been close friends for years, and Matthew says that the children he has with Brazilian model Camila Alves call Woody uncle and that even his family confuses who is who.

“You see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of his pictures are mine. His family thinks a lot of my pictures are his.” Doubts, however, still hover, as Matthew did not want to perform a DNA test.

“Look, it’s a little easier for Woody to say, ‘Come on, let’s do this. [testes de DNA]’ because what does he have to do with it?” McConaughey said. “It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take a chance and say ‘wait a minute, you’re trying to tell me that my dad might not be mine father after 53 years believing it?’ I have a little more to risk.”

In March, the actors announced that they will appear together in the comedy “Brother From Another Mother”, which will be released on Apple TV +. They didn’t reveal how much real life inspired the series. The production does not yet have a release date.
