The State Theater of Northern Greece (KTHBE) bids her farewell Katerina Helmi, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of “a great lady of Greek theater and cinema, who served art and culture with her talent, ethics and modesty”.

The beloved actress had the KTHBE a total of 24 partnerships in the period from 1971 to 1996. “He was a special person – always with a big smile – who left, having written a long and consistent path in the theater art. Actress, acting teacher, but also the author of several books, she was a well-rounded personality with a great intellectual culture” is underlined in today’s announcement of the KTHBE.

Katerina Helmi was born in Athens in 1939. She studied at the Drama School of the National and Theater of Art, but finally graduated from the School of Pelos Katselis. She became known to the general public through characteristic roles in some of the most beloved films of Greek cinema. Her first appearance in the cinema took place in 1957 in the film “Barbagiannis the pitcher”, while her greatest success was the film “The red lights”, directed by Vassilis Georgiadis.

“During her career, she was involved in more than 25 films and in four television series. In the theater she starred in dozens of shows and stood out for her high-level performances. She was a fighter both in her art and in the social and political life of the country. Her husband was professor and academic Konstantinos Svolopoulos. At KTHBE he has collaborated with great directors, performing important roles in many theater performances. Her last collaboration was in Pantelis Horn’s play “To fintanaki” which was presented in 1996, directed by Thodoris Goni, at the Municipal Theater of Stavroupolis, while performances at the Avlaia Theater followed in 1997, as well as a winter and summer tour,” the announcement concludes.
