Golden Globes: “The Power of the Dog” and “West Side Story” Win Key Awards

by

“The Power of the Dog” and “West Side Story” won major awards at the Golden Globes ceremony, which was ignored by Hollywood and performed without a television broadcast or red carpet, with the awards being announced online.

Jane Campion’s dark western “The Power of the Dog” is the second female director’s Golden Globe Award for Best Drama. He also won the Director Award, while Kodi Smit-McPhee was honored with the Second Award for Best Actor.

Steven Spielberg’s remake of “West Side Story” won Best Picture, Comedy or Musical, while Rachel Zegler won Best Actress in the same category and Ariana DeBose won Best Supporting Actress.

Will Smith and Nicole Kidman were awarded the Golden Globes for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama, respectively, for their roles in “King Richard” and “Being the Ricardos”.

The award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical category went to Andrew Garfield for his role in “Tick, tick, … Boom!”.

The movie “Belfast”, which is considered among the favorites in the opening season of the awards, was limited to the Best Screenplay award.

HBO’s “Succession” won Best Drama Series.

But, none of the winners was present at the ceremony that took place behind closed doors.

The Golden Globes ceremony, which opens the film awards season, usually attracts the cream of the entertainment industry. This year, however, Hollywood stars stayed away from the Foreign Correspondents Association’s awards ceremony, criticizing the institution for lack of transparency and racism.

The American television network NBC withdrew from the broadcast of the ceremony, despite the high viewership in recent years, and the event did not have much impact on Twitter, where users were more concerned with the death of American actor Bob Saget, announced during the night.

The Foreign Correspondents Association consists of one hundred people and has been privately accused in Hollywood circles for a long time for a series of incidents that move between corruption and racism.

The Los Angeles Times revealed last year that the Union has no blacks among its members by opening the dance of attacks. Since then, the Union has sought to reform its operation by banning, for example, its members from accepting luxury gifts or free hotel accommodation from competing film studios to secure their vote.
