The famous actor Michael Douglas (Michael Douglas), at the age of 78, will receive the honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The 76th Cannes Film Festival will premiere on May 16 and will run until the 27th of the month.

The award is a tribute “to his brilliant career and involvement in cinema”.

“It’s always a breath of fresh air to be at Cannes, which has long provided a wonderful platform for bold creators with artistic challenges and storytelling excellence,” the award-winning actor said in a statement, adding.

“From my first time in 1979 for ‘The China Syndrome’ to my most recent premiere of ‘Behind the Candelabra’ in 2013, the Festival has always reminded me that the magic of cinema is not only what we see on the screen, but in its ability to affect all people around the world. After more than 50 years in the field, it is an honor to return to the Croisette to open the Festival and embrace our common universal language of cinema.”

As part of the tribute to the actor, Amine Mesta’s documentary entitled “Michael Douglas, The Prodigal Son” will be screened for the first time from May 14 to 16.
