(News Bulletin 247) – Liban Cables, a subsidiary of Nexans, has inaugurated the extension of its 600 kW peak solar energy system at its Nahr Ibrahim industrial site in Lebanon, bringing its total power to 1.2 MW in cutting edge, with a first-of-its-kind 500 kW containerized battery solution.
This project will enable Liban Cables to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 1,500 tonnes per year, or the equivalent of the weight of 750 cars, by replacing two of its six electric generators with photovoltaic panels.
The 3,020 photovoltaic panels installed and connected to the plant by Nexans solutions will produce more than 1,800 MWh per year.
This renewable energy will cover between 18% and 20% of the electricity needed by the plant to produce a wide range of cables for building, industry and infrastructure. This is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 434 Lebanese households for 25 years.
‘This facility represents Nexans’ commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 4.2% per year by 2030 and to help mitigate the impact of climate change by expanding the use of renewable energy ‘, said Nabil Khlat, Managing Director of Liban Cables.
