The beloved actor Haris Asimakopoulos, the TV actor Argyris Efstratiou from “Glycaniso”, spoke exclusively to skai.gr about the special role he plays in the SKAI drama series, the current reality TV, racism, as well as about his personal and professional choices he has made in his life.
So, what will be the finale of the TV hero?
Then see everything he confided in us!
How do you feel about the current television season that is slowly coming to an end?
I feel that all the channels, after the last years of crisis, are starting to find their own identity.
Now they have many shows – informative, entertainment, games, serials, movies. I consider all this to be in a healthy direction for everyone to find their line and to find a balance in everyone’s schedule.
● How would you describe “Anise” in a few words?
Love, suspense, honest series, very nice collaboration.
● You hold a role against your character, Argiris Efstratiou. How easy is this matchup?
The whole charm is in doing roles that are against your character and your demeanor. Facing such roles is never easy but not difficult either. You have to search to find “why Efstratiou has such a behavior that you don’t have, what is it in his life that made him behave in this way?”
Is it the money, is it a disappointment – romantic, personal, social, family, even disappointment with his job?” Approaching these roles has difficulties because you don’t have feet, but when you succeed it becomes an extremely charming relationship. Because in any case, the character of Efstrati or any Efstrati, I as an actor am called to support him, I am not called to judge him. As crazy as it may seem to you, for me Efstratiou has his rights, while I play him of course. Like Haris Asimakopoulos, Efstratiou should go to the fire as soon as possible.
● In the upcoming episodes, Thanasis finds more and more evidence of Efstrati’s illegal activity. Will his dark side be revealed soon?
His dark side is already beginning to reveal itself. We will see how dark she is in the next episodes. I won’t say more…
- Is there a scene during filming that is strongly etched in your memory?
The biggest difficulty I faced is towards the end of the series that my hero has to show his true self which he hasn’t shown so far. It’s a moment of him confessing to someone (who I can’t now reveal so as not to give away the story). In this scene, Efstratiou reveals his true character which so far has not been shown exactly as it is. The difficulty was that in one short scene I had to express everything that this hero implied in the previous episodes. It was difficult but at the same time very charming.
● For you, what is the ideal ending for your hero?
As an actor I have to support my hero. The ideal ending for Efstratiou is not to get caught and go to prison – it is to escape and find himself in a private villa somewhere in the depths of Africa and enjoying his life with all that he has made. As Efstratiou I want to be vindicated, I don’t want to be caught.
● The series presents issues that “touch” our daily lives, such as immigration and refugees. How feasible is it to keep the delicate balance between fiction and real life?
In my experience it is very difficult to keep the balance between fiction and real life.
The reason is that a series – either because of the time it’s given or because of the time it’s played – will at some point deal with certain things.
And another reason is that in some matters life is much more imaginative than any script you can write to represent it. And I’m referring to the lives of people who are refugees, people who have left their country for whatever reason and are wandering around the world. I think their life is much tougher than what a soap opera can show.
● What reasons make a person cruel and racist towards someone who is of a different gender, color, religion, etc.?
The lack of education and the fear of the new.
● Have you ever faced a racist incident? If so, how have you dealt with it?
I have happened to be on the subway and a group of young people who were clearly from a foreign country would enter. It was a very nice picture, 4-5 handsome young men, in nice clothes, they seemed to be going for a walk. They were in such a happy mood that they just laughed out loud without being provocative.
One of the passengers got annoyed and started shouting at them that “if you want to laugh like that, go to your country, etc.” What struck me was that I was the only one who stood up and reacted to his words while an entire train car stood idly by watching the guy support his positions and me mine and the boys looking dumbfounded. Not a single one of the wagon took a seat. Ignorant and indifferent…
● Is there a personal or professional choice you regret?
I have answered this question thousands of times in myself. Really, I haven’t regretted any of my choices. I am happy with both my mistakes and my right ones. The future always shows you whether your choice is right or not. We have found them both with my choices and with myself.
