The Center Pompidou in the Parisone of the world’s most important museums of modern and contemporary art, will close for renovation at the end of 2025 and reopen in 2030, French Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak announced Wednesday.

The tasks will cost 262 million euros, and the move and phase-out will begin in autumn 2024.

The renovation and removal of asbestos from all facades, the improvement of fire safety, the energy optimization of the building, as well as the arrangements for better accessibility for people with reduced mobility, will start in early 2026, the minister said.

The Georges Pompidou Center (Centre Georges-Pompidou), also known as the Beaubourg Center or simply Beaubourg, is located in the fourth arrondissement (4eme Arrondissement) in the Beaubourg district of Paris in France.

Inaugurated in 1977, it houses the Public Information Library and the National Museum of Modern Art.

It bears the name of the former president of France Georges Pompidou in the period 1969-1974.
