Celebrities and fans of Rita Lee have gathered since the early morning of this Wednesday (10th) for the final farewell to the queen of national rock at the Planetarium in Ibirapuera Park, in the south zone of São Paulo, a place chosen by the singer herself. Rita died on the night of this Monday (8), at her home, also in the capital of São Paulo, aged 75, after fighting lung cancer since 2021.
Among the first family members who arrived at the wake were Virginia, Rita’s sister, and João Lee, the singer’s middle son, who spoke to journalists. He talked about the last few weeks with his mother.
“Since I found out that she had cancer (2021), I decided to move back in with my parents and we connected even more. It was very special”, he recalled. “I can’t explain what happened yet, it all happened so fast. I had many happy moments with her, all very special. It was peaceful for her, peaceful, but we already miss her.”
Presenters Serginho Groisman and Pedro Bial and ex-chacrete Rita Cadillac also arrived early to embrace Rita Lee’s family. Presenters Xuxa Meneghel and Astrid Fontenelle, singers Marina Lima and Paulo Lima, former model Daniela Cicarelli, former soccer player and sports commentator Walter Casagrande, state deputy Eduardo Suplicy and painter and sculptor Antonio Peticov also attended the funeral.
The place is also full of wreaths sent by fans, friends of the queen of rock, like Jorge Ben Jor, and celebrities, including Boninho and Ana Furtado. During the ceremony, the planetary ceiling displays a static projection with images of the sky from December 31, 1947, the date on which Rita Lee was born. The singer left a request to her family that her body be cremated in a ceremony reserved for family and friends.
