A few days before the premiere of the film “Jeanne du Barry” at the Cannes Film Festival, Johnny Depp returns as director this time for the “Modigliani”a biographical drama about the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

It will star Italian star Riccardo Scamarzio in the title role, Cesar Award winner Pierre Niney and iconic actor Al Pacino, who will also serve as producer alongside Barry Navidi. It is worth noting that this is the second collaboration of Pacino with Johnny Depp after the film “Donnie Brasco” in 1997.

Based on the play of the same name by Dennis MacIntyre, the film will tell the story of the famous artist during his stay in Paris in 1916. According to “Deadline”, filming is expected to begin in Budapest in the fall, and the rest of the casting is in place ongoing.

“The incredible cast, combined with the vision, spirit and sensitivity I know Johnny will bring behind the camera, will make a dream come true,” said Navidi.

“Modigliani” will be Depp’s second directorial effort after 1997’s “The Brave” with Marlon Brando. He has also directed several music videos for his ex-wife, Vanessa Paradis.
