Fabio Porchat rebuts criticism after defending Léo Lins: ‘I am against racism’

Fábio Porchat was accused of prejudice by Internet users when he came out in defense of comedian Léo Lins, whose video was censored by the Justice. Still this Wednesday (17), the presenter countered the attacks and again took a stand against the court decision.

“It is evident that I am against racism and I have even been a great ally in this fight for a long time. I have already said a thousand times, in all the interviews I have given, that the limit of humor is the Constitution”, wrote Porchat, in your Twitter profile.

The comedian defended that the jokes made by Lins do not constitute a crime: “I always said and keep saying that I think it’s bad to make an offensive type of joke, I think it’s sad, I think it’s old, I think it’s unpleasant, but none of that is a crime. As long as it’s not a crime, he can”.

Porchat said that freedom of expression makes it possible for jokes against minorities to be made: “I defend freedom of expression and if there are people who want to use that freedom to offend, too bad. But they can.”

According to the newspaper Gazeta do Povo, the decision of judge Gina Fonseca Correa points out that Léo Lins would be “reproducing speeches and positions that are now repudiated”, mentioning in his jokes themes such as slavery, religious persecution, minorities and elderly people with disabilities.
