Starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal as cowboys in love, Pedro Almodovar’s queer western thrilled audiences and critics
Pedro Almodovar returned to Cannes last night, with the premiere of his new short film, entitled “Strange Way Of Life” – and the response from audiences and critics was enthusiastic.
Starring him Ethan Hawke and the Pedro Pascal as tormented lovers and only 31 minutes long, ‘Strange Way of Life’ was among the most popular premieres of the night, with hundreds of cinephiles queuing up despite the rains and eventually filling the 1,000+ seat theater – with many staying last moment out.

Of course, the 73-year-old director also attended the premiere, who talked about his second English-language film – after last year’s short film “The Human Voice” with Tilda Swinton – alongside Ethan Hawke. Pascal was unable to attend due to filming for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2.
“I wanted to make a classic western, where I talk about the desire between two cowboys,” said Almodóvar, stating that the “Brokeback Mountain” was the closest thing to it, but his own film is “the first truly queer Western».
