Actress Fan Bingbing, rarely seen outside of China after a tax dispute threatened to derail her career, continued her recent return to the limelight with a series of high-profile appearances at this month’s Cannes Film Festival.

The “X-Men” star was photographed at several red carpet events and galas taking place alongside the 12-day festival, which wraps up on Saturday. And while Fan has long represented major Western brands like Louis Vuitton, she has used the spotlight to showcase lesser-known — and in many cases, Asian — designers, wearing clothes from South Korean, Filipino and Vietnamese brands, among others.

Making her first Cannes appearance since 2018, Fan arrived at last Tuesday’s opening event (the premiere of Johnny Depp’s new film ‘Jeanne du Barry’) wearing a Christopher Bu creation. The dress featured tigers and a bamboo forest reminiscent of traditional Chinese paintings.

On Thursday, the actress showcased two more outfits from Asian brands. At the Women’s Stories Gala, she arrived wearing a floral top with a matching silver headpiece and a long, cape — all by Miss Sohee, an up-and-coming couture label founded by South Korean designer Sohee Park.

On Friday night, she turned to the Chung Thanh Phong brand once again, as she attended a dinner party in a look from the brand’s latest collection, paired with a Jimmy Choo bag. She was also spotted that night in a white dress by Filipino designer Harvey Cenit.

Fan’s Cannes outfits seem to have been well received on Chinese social media. Her arrival on the opening night of the festival briefly trended on the Twitter-like platform Weibo, where the hashtag #FanBingbingCannes has now been viewed more than 6 million times since last Tuesday.
