Brazilian Music Award will have drag duo doing the honors of the house and tribute to Alcione

by

The idea is to move and bring representativeness and inclusion not only to the event itself but also to the red carpet of the 30th edition of the Brazilian Music Award, which takes place this Wednesday (31), at Teatro Municipal do Rio.

For this version, in which the “Best Singer” and “Best Singer” categories cease to exist and give way to the “Best Performer” category -which includes male, female and non-binary artists-, the creator and director of the party, José Maurício Machline, cast the duo of singer-drags Sara and Nina and actress and youtuber Valen Bandeira as hosts of the night.

They will lead all the red carpet interviews, with live transmission on a big screen installed in Cinelândia, close to the Municipal. Backstage and backstage, it is DJ Zé Pedro who talks to nominees, winners and guests.

Sara Bemdeu and Nina Bellohombre (Gabriel Sanches and Alessandro Brandão) are the characters behind Sara and Nina, a musical project formed in 2014 that seeks dialogue with gender and sexuality issues. The duo began their career in Lapa, at the former Bar Semente, samba stronghold in Rio.

She sang a lot of cesspool music and hits performed or composed by women between the 40s and 70s, such as Dalva de Oliveira, Linda and Dircinha Batista, Maysa and Dolores Duran. The show, “My sad women: a furious ode to samba-canção”, is about to become an album.

With the honors of the house done by Sara, Nina and Valen, time for the awards ceremony. It will be presented by Felipe Neto and Lázaro Ramos, and the night promises to be a long one: there are 31 categories disputed by artists from all regions of Brazil. Names from different generations and musical styles share the stage in lineups that are far from the obvious. Maria Bethânia and Gloria Groove, for example, will interpret ‘O Meu Amor’, by Chico Buarque.

Alcione will be honored at this edition of the event, which will also feature Caetano Veloso, Luedji Luna, Marina Sena, and not so surprising duos (just one observation), such as those formed by Emicida and Fioti, Péricles and Ferrugem, Seu Jorge and Iza, Diogo Nogueira and the Inovasamba group, in addition to the trio with Fran, Tim Bernardes and Zé Ibarra, from Bala Quero.
