In particular, the Palace of the World Pontian Hellenism of Sourmenon is expected to be delivered within the next three years and their facilities will house, among others, the local Pontian association, its library, conference rooms and event halls. The plot belongs to the public spaces located within the investment of Elliniko and the construction cost of the project is borne entirely by Spyros Latsis, after accepting the relevant request from the Municipality of Argyroupolis-Elliniko. The architectural design of the building has been undertaken on a non-profit basis by the office Doxiadis Assossiates, Giannis Pazianos, with the architect Sotiris Tsoulos, with a basic priority in the design, as it was seen from the presentation of the project, to aesthetically capture the soul of the Pontians in the space. In front of the building that, based on its design, resembles the Holy Monastery of Panagia Soumela, a round square will be created in honor of the pyrrhic dance. There will also be an area that will be empty, as a symbol for the gap left by the 353 undefeated souls of the Hellenes.
As stated by the CEO of Lamda Development Odysseas Athanassiou, conveying on behalf of Mr. Latsis his decision to undertake the full financing for the construction of the Palace of World Pontian Hellenism, the building will be a landmark for Greek, Greece and ecumenical Pontian Hellenism. It will also be an ideal way to connect the new city historically with the current one. “The new house of the Pontians lays its foundations in Elliniko, here where their roots are, their collective memory, their ancestral homes.
