HBO released the official trailer for the new series “The Idol”directed by Sam Levinsona few days after the premiere on Cannes Film Festival.

With early reviews not positive, “The Idol” tells the story of a self-improvement guru and cult leader who enters into a complicated relationship with a rising pop idol.

The much talked about series stars the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose Melody Depand Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, Abel Tesfaye aka “The Weeknd”.

We know we’re making a series that’s challenging. It’s not unknown to us,” Levinson said at the Cannes press conference with Tesfaye, who co-created the series, noting that both he and Levinson aimed to “create something special, something fun, make people laugh and annoy some».

The cast also includes, among others, Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Devin Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Jane Addams and Hank Azaria.

It is expected to premiere at the MAX on June 4.
