The role acted as a wake-up call for Gosling, and he admits the prospect of becoming a father hadn’t even crossed his mind until Eva Mendes came into his life. “I wasn’t thinking about children before I met her, but after meeting Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have children without her“, he remembers.
“And there were moments in “The Place Beyond the Pines” where we were pretending to be a family and I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore. I realized that this would be a life I would be truly lucky to have».
The couple’s first child, Esmeralda, was born in 2014, with Amada following two years later, as Gosling’s career peaked in the mainstream, with starring roles in the musical epic ‘La La Land’ and the comedy-drama drama “The Nice Guys”.
