It sounds like a unique opportunity: An entire castle in Britain is being sold for just 34 thousand euros.

Brough Lodge is in the middle of nowhere, in one of the most isolated parts of Britain, in Fetlar, the fourth largest of the Shetland Islands, off Scotland.

Amidst the cloudiness and haziness that characterizes the Scottish countryside, the setting is reminiscent of “Windsweeping Heights”.

It sounds idyllic and the price is a bargain but there is a small problem: the current owner says that the renovation of the castle buildings will cost 12 million euros!

‘Brough Lodge’ was built in the Gothic style in 1825. It has been empty since the 19780s and about 10 years ago the current owners carried out restoration work, following a fundraising campaign.

In addition to the house, there is a courtyard, several walled gardens and an oval tower that was once used as a watchtower.
