In the early 1990s, the rapper Douglas Leonwhose stage name is Dogge Doggelito created the band in Sweden Latin Kings. Dogge Doggelito, Sweden’s first rapper is the subject of the documentary “The Underdog” from Momento Film, the film production company founded by David Herdish and Michael Krotkiewicz
“He’s the man who invented Swedish hip-hop and put suburban urban culture on the map” said Herdis while presenting the project at the Cannes Film Festival, according to Variety.

Today, Doggelito struggles to make ends meet and support his family with small gigs. The documentary will be directed by Ivan Blanco, a Chilean-Swedish filmmaker who met Doggelito under strange circumstances in Colombia and decided to make a film about him, said Herdis, who is producing the documentary along with Simon Klose and Krotkiewicz.
Despite the great success, Dogge Doggelito’s life was “dark” in between. In the mid-2000s, he lost his wife Leonida Léon to cancer. When he later met his current wife Claudia, they were going to have their daughter Belén, but the baby died before she was born.
Douglas Leon was born in Stockholm to a Venezuelan father and a Swedish mother. Today he works in the music industry, is a writer and has appeared in films and television series.
