In the context of this new collaboration, the film workshop “Creative workshop development for essay film – From Land to Sea, from the inside out” will be held on the island of Anafi, a joint action of DISFF and ΑnafiFF.
The International Drama Short Film Festival (DISFF) collaborates with the newly established Anafi International Film Festival (ΑnafiFF), which will take place from July 6 to 11, 2023.
In the context of this new collaboration, the film workshop “Creative workshop development for essay film – From Land to Sea, from the inside out” will be held on the island of Anafi, a joint action of DISFF and ΑnafiFF.
The seminar, which will take place under the guidance of the award-winning director Thanasis Neofotistos (head of the International Student Program of the Drama Festival), is aimed at students interested in developing a film idea in the form of an essay film and is offered free of charge with the support of the International Festival of Small Films Drama length.
The term “essay film” is widely used in film criticism to describe a self-referential cinema where the boundaries between fiction and documentary are erased. The main theme of the seminar will be the coupling of the psychic world with the environment of the island, the search (and discovery) of the self.
The seminar will consist of two parts. The development of the primary material will take place on the island of Anafi during three days, but in September it will continue in the city of Drama where there will also be the possibility of presenting the material as part of the Festival. During the DISFF, Yannis Sakaridis (DISFF artistic director), Panagiotis Iosifelis (head of the National Student Program of the Drama Festival) and Denis Nikolakou (head of Cinematherapy DISFF) will act as guides.
Four participants will be selected. Their stay in Anafi will be covered by the organizing team of the Festival. The transport costs are borne by them. Knowledge of the English language is desirable. The seminar will be held in Greek but there is a possibility that guest speakers will participate, who will speak in English.
The two Festivals are issuing an open call for applications of interest until June 16 at [email protected]. A 100-word synopsis, a director’s note of up to one page (“why do you want to make an essay film?”), a representative visual (an image/photo that inspires the director) and a bio of the creator are required.
