Lily-Rose Depp has the best agent in Hollywood and the world at her feet.

But her starring role on HBO’s “The Idol” — featuring scenes that have been described as “comedically bad” and “torture porn” — has industry insiders praying that the 24-year-old rising star escapes artistic waterloo, even if “almost”.

The 24-year-old “nepo baby” of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis plays Jocelyn, a Britney Spears-esque superstar who has “fallen into the trap” of Tedros, a…sect leader and club owner played by The Weeknd , who is also the creator of the series.

There’s nudity, masturbation and S&M in just the first episode, with scenes in the series reminiscent, as Page SIX notes, of the 1995 kitsch film Showgirls.

A stunned guest at its Cannes premiere last month told Page Six: “The second episode is almost worse. There’s this awkward scene where he orders her to do certain things and then a very graphic sex act. It’s all very pornographic … most of the audience were shocked.”

The young starlet’s social media was flooded with almost 3,000 comments after the first episode, including “This is either going to take off or break Lily’s career” and “I was really excited to see you for the first time. I was disappointed to see your nipples in the first 3-5 minutes. It was hard to watch. Not because of you, because of the story and the dialogue”, are indicative of some of the comments that have been written.

As audiences and critics talk about a provocative and sadistic work, “The Idol” contains raw sex scenes, masturbation scenes, and even a scene in which Tedros has sex with Jocelyn at knifepoint while nearly strangling her.

As for Johnny Depp, sources close to him told DailyMail.com that he himself has not been affected and instead “believes his daughter must be doing something right to get so much attention.”

The same source added: “Johnny loves that Lily is creating her own career and challenging herself to take on roles that interest her and challenge her. She doesn’t base her career on his success. He loves that she’s such a dynamic person, especially now that she’s gotten some extra attention with her role on “Idol.” He’s proud of her and thinks she must be doing something right since her role has gotten so much attention, he’s proud of her success.”
