The announcement of the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tassoulas, on the death of Dionysis Savvopoulos:

The news of the death of Dionysis Savvopoulos causes emotion and sadness to all of us. He was a great artist, a special person who was loved by the Greek people for his personality, his work and his contribution to art. Uncompromising, innovative and daring, he embodied the spirit of questioning in the most sensitive and poetic way through works that sealed the history of Greek song and were milestones in the modern culture of our country.

He was a solitary wayfarer of song, but also a unique rhapsodist who crossed all these decades fearlessly. He was poetic and political at the same time, always with the courage of his opinion and with the passion of participating in the concerns of each era. Whatever the tensions of the moment, however he took a position, however genuinely he expressed the current of each era, his concern was always for the “Greek Communities” to be united. His concern was always to overcome differences and divisions.

Dionysis Savvopoulos will be missed. The loss of an artist of this stature leaves a great void on the map of our culture, but his work was not only “voice of the times.” It was also a sound of truth and authenticity that will continue to resonate in the future. With deep emotion and respect, I would like to express my deepest condolences on behalf of the Greek State to his wife, Aspa, to his children Cornelios and Romanos, to his relatives and to his countless friends.
