The British-American actress Lucy Boynton will star in an ITV TV series which will tell the story of the last woman to be executed in England.

The “Bohemian Rhapsody” star will play Ruth Ellis, a nightclub owner who hanged herself at the age of 28 when she was sentenced to death for the murder of her lover David Blakely. It is noted that Ruth Ellis was the 15th woman executed in Britain in the 20th century and the last. Albert Pierpoint carried out her execution at Holloway Prison in 1955.

The four-episode series will be made by Silverprint Pictures, which is backed by ITV Studios. The screenplay is written by Kelly Jones, based on Carol Ann Lee’s book A Fine Day for Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story.

Kelly’s script brilliantly explains not only how the emotional and physical abuse she suffered led her to commit the heinous crime, but also her desperate last-minute rescue as she and her supporters battled a ruthless establishment.” says Huw Kennair Jones one of the producers of ITV Studios, which will also handle global distribution.

According to “Deadline” the direction of the promising series is signed by Lee Haven Jones.
