Two powerful German companies are now involved in the largest rail accident ever in Greece. It is about Bayer AG based in Leverkusen and Siemens Mobility gmbh based in Munich. The reason the two companies are now involved is because relatives of 23 -year -old Angelos Telkeridis from Naoussa, have filed a lawsuit for compensation at the Larissa Multiple Court of First Instance. They turn against the two German companies but also against OSE and Hellenic Train SA.
A key person in the lawsuit is Thomas Kalvourtzis, a bailiff at the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal. Mr. Kalvourtzis is Angel’s uncle. He speaks for the first time publicly and, as he exclusively mentioned in Deutsche Welle and Maria Rigoutsouthe first thing they want and pursue with this treatment is’justification for the calamity they found“
But why are they turning against the two German companies? According to the investigating authorities, the Silicone oils were those responsible for the fire and fireplace created after the collision of the two trains.
“In the case file from data provided by the Hellenic Train, a specific batch of Bayer’s silicone oils, which Siemens had bought and used to transformers.”. Since the authorities have come to the conclusion that silicone oils are responsible for the fire, the companies that manufactured and supplied them should be checked.
The responsibility of the manufacturer and the supplier company
According to Mr. Kalvourtzis, according to the case file, the Silicone Olives made by Bayer and then supplied to OSE Siemens, are responsible for the ignition, firefighting and fire challenge. The lawsuit also cited a relevant European Directive, on 85/274, which has become a law of the state in Germany 1989 and Greece in 2002, which provides that “if the product is defective, both the manufacturer and the supplier company must be compensated”. Indeed, they claim, they must compensate without being able to rely on specific conditions or errors and omissions of workers.
Present at Bayer and Siemens exhumations
The compensation requested by Angel’s relatives is EUR 80 million, an amount reasonable, in accordance with Article 16 of the European Directive they are referring to. But much more important than the amount of money is justice, as they point out. To finally find the truth because 27 people were burned alive, while they had managed to survive the conflict. A condition unthinkable for both the people who were lost and their relatives. Who can forget the sounds and listening to the voice say, “I don’t have oxygen”?
But because they chose this time to deposit the lawsuit; We don’t hear so long that they are silicone oils are those responsible for the fire? So why now and not earlier?
As Mr. Kalvourtzis explains, they were informed by the investigating authorities -after those who had been studying -on August 1, 2025, with an emblem that officially the Silicone oils are those responsible for fire.
Previously the estimates may have existed in the public debate, but not in writing, in a formal manner, which could be included in the case file. The relatives then rushed to gather whatever information they knew and others who were later added to file the lawsuit.
And one last thing that Mr. Kalvourtzis insists particularly: “In the event that there is a state of exhumation from the state for toxicological and biochemical examinations for Angel, it will We wanted to become the presence of Bayer and Siemens. We would like to be present, so that the result is not disputed by the companies themselves, which are currently accountable and responsible for compensation. “
