THE American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences adds three new categories Grammy Awards stepping up the drive for inclusion in the music industry.

The organization announced in a press release that the 66th awards ceremony will include the new categories Best Performance of African Music, Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Dance Pop Recording.

In addition, the Recording Academy moved the Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical categories to the general field so that all voters could vote for these non-genre-specific categories.

These changes reflect our commitment to actively listen and respond to feedback from our music community, accurately represent a wide range of musical genres, and stay aligned with the ever-evolving music landscapesaid Harvey Mason J. managing director of the Academy.

By introducing these three new categories, we are able to recognize and appreciate a wider range of artists – and moving the Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year categories into the general field ensures that all our voters can participate in recognizing excellence in these categorieshe added.

Last year the Academy added the Songwriter of the Year and Song for Social Change categories.
