Fashion designer, Paul Smith, will leave his work Banksywhich he will sell at his auction by Bonhams in London. The painting “Congestion Charge” of 2004 is a pastoral scene with trees and plants, depicting a classic English landscape and a sign for the ticket that every car driver must pay to enter central London.

This is a work that satirizes the tax imposed in the same year on vehicles in central London. Paul Smith also sold a Banksy through Christie’s in New York in 2021. In that case the work ‘Sunflowers from Petrol Station’ sold for $14.5 million.

What initially attracted me to Banksy was his confidence and clarity in communicating something exactly as it is. I was so impressed by his observations of what was happening in the world and this remains true in the work he creates today. His political statements are absolutely timely, truly profound, truly brave and consistently delivered in a modern way“, said the British fashion designer.

The ‘Congestion Charge’ project is being auctioned on June 29 and the estimated sale price is $2.3 million.
